AS Research & Planning

Title
Shot types and editing techniques
Observations
The Dark Knight Rises
- extreme wide shot (when the plane is flying)
- medium shot (when the man is speaking)
- close up (showing the gun & the Bane's face)
- editing: when the movie is introduced to the daylight of the plane flying
- the Gotham city being filmed from a helicopter
- the close up shots are used very regularly as it helps the audience to understand what the main plot of the story
- and the extreme wide shot to introduce a new scene and to show us what's going to happen
Slumdog Millionaire
- low angle shot
- close up / pan shot
- over the head shot/birds eye view (to show everyone who is watching him)
- editing: the ending of the film begins at the start which uses a flashback technique of how he got to where he is
- these different techniques show the story line from a different points of view which would help to explain the story more
Jaws
- camera shot from the sharks point of view
- editing: the music that plays when the shark is near gives suspense
- long shot (showing the feet of people when they walk in the sea and the splashing of water)
- water-level filming
- close up shot
- the editing in this is very good because although we cant see a shark, we know that as soon as the music begins to play he is around
- and what the shark can see when he's in the water

THE 180 DEGREE RULE

In a short video on youtube I learned the 180 degree rule, which is the the camera shot which provides the two characters within the play to get there expressions or dialouge. It is a basic guideline regarding the on-screen spatial relationship between a character and another character or object within a scene. An imaginary line called the axis connects the characters and by keeping the camera on one side of this axis for every shot in the scene, the first character will always be frame right of the second character, who is then always frame left of the first. If the camera passes over the axis, it is called crossing the line or jumping the line. This in particular helps me with my Preliminary Task as we have to use this particular Camera shot.

Research into my TARGET AUDIENCE.

the target audiece will usually be in relationship, married or divorced. Women with experience will be able to familiarise with the situations which hooks them in. The romcom/action we are planning on filming does involve violence and strong language which is why it is suitable for 15 years and above. The strong part of the film itself is that as its action and the main plot is about a guy who plays women which is something some males admire. As this is the case men will be attracted the watch this film aswell. This has been done before with the movie 'This Means War' where it has the usual comedy and romance plots however it is an action film. This movie has inspired our opening film as it comes around the same genre we are looking for.

Here is a graph to show the age of people who go to the cinema and how many people in the age group go. The graph shows that 15-24 year olds go to the cinema more often than anybody else. This is the reason why a movie like this which is aimed at that age group is a valuble asset to the film as it will get more followers.
